DOTTED STORY: CONTROL VERSUS HAPPINESS

Years ago, I took the children to McDonald's, where they used to provide coloring sheets with the meals. Each sheet featured a maze, a picture, and another picture with dots and numbers. By connecting the dots according to the numbers, one could create a picture to color. It struck me then that perhaps life is akin to this; God has a picture for each of us, but the numbers are absent, leaving us to connect the dots and craft our own respective images.
In this analogy, some may stumble upon the right connections, leading to a path of health, happiness, and success. Others, however, might be swayed by societal trends, attempting to piece together a picture influenced by external pressures, ultimately sacrificing their own well-being and contentment. The pursuit of societal approval or admiration can be all-consuming, but as mortals, we cannot forfeit our entire lives to such pursuits.
Imagine, though, handing a child a picture devoid of numbers. In such a scenario, the child must rely solely on imagination to connect the dots. If unable to do so, frustration ensues, complicating matters further. This frustration is not uncommon among adults; we all harbor visions of how we want our lives to unfold, yet must rely on our own ingenuity to bring these visions to fruition. Sometimes, external guidance, such as that from parents, can aid us in this endeavor. But without such guidance, we risk marring the picture, spending a lifetime attempting to rectify our missteps.
A flawed picture can lead to a lifelong struggle, compelling adults to behave impulsively or abandon their pursuits altogether. Patience, therefore, becomes paramount in avoiding such pitfalls.
Furthermore, one must have faith in the picture they've been given. It requires introspection to discern whether personal desires or societal influences fuel one's frustrations. Nature also plays a significant role; attempting to deviate from one's inherent path can lead to discontentment and unfulfillment.
Consider the analogy of being destined to become a mechanic but pursuing a career in accounting, or being coerced into a profession contrary to one's passion. Expecting universal success in every endeavor is unrealistic. As temporary beings, prioritizing happiness becomes imperative. The true measure of success lies not in accolades or wealth, but in the pursuit of contentment and fulfillment.
Living a successful life hinges on managing all aspects with equal care, akin to a CEO overseeing multiple departments. While challenging, it's within our capacity to achieve. Each individual possesses the autonomy to make choices, yet neglecting facets such as health or spirituality can lead to regret later in life.
Happiness, above all else, is paramount. Society often pressures us to conform to unrealistic ideals, but true success lies in embracing our authentic selves. Pursuing happiness in all aspects of life supersedes material wealth or societal validation.
Life, akin to writing an exam, necessitates prioritizing happiness and contentment. Time is finite, necessitating a balanced allocation to work, rest, and leisure. Embracing the role of fate can alleviate undue stress, recognizing that success is not solely determined by effort but also by serendipity.
In essence, life is akin to shooting arrows at both seen and unseen targets. While immediate results may be gratifying, mastering the art of aiming at unseen targets requires a blend of skill, luck, and acceptance of external forces. Self-reflection and humility are essential; acknowledging the role of luck and destiny tempers the urge to blame oneself for life's shortcomings.
Ultimately, finding inner peace and productivity forms the bedrock of true happiness. By letting go of preconceived notions and embracing one's authentic self, inner contentment becomes attainable, fostering a more fulfilling existence for oneself and others. In the end, productivity in all facets of life is the cornerstone of genuine success.
